Zine workshop
What’s a zine? A zine is an artistic self-publication, whether literary, drawn, collaged, or otherwise! The idea is to create a platform to express your message without editorial constraints.
Zines are produced in bulk, by and for youth, to express themselves, participate in society, foster agency, persevere, make a stand !
This workshop was created in respect to the global approach fostered by community-based organisations who work with youth in the field of education, and is meant to easily insert itself into the group’s regular activities and interventions.
Encourage self-expression and foster agency
This workshop is made up of 3 easy steps which lean on personnal and collective work :
- Collective discussion on the school system, identifying causes for school and social dropout. Then, choosing a zine subject.
- Individual creation followed by the collective assembly of works within the zine template, and writing an editorial as a team.
- Reproduction, binding and distribution of the zine.
With their zines in hand, young artists should feel empowered to act on the cirumstances that hinder them, or at least, speak on it! Distribute these zines in your communities to inspire change, deliver them to councelors and teachers, the school administration and elected officials.
